Phibsoo Wildlife Sanctuary
Sarpang, Bhutan
Why visit Phibsoo Wildlife Sanctuary?
Phibsoo Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area in Sarpang district, southern Bhutan, covering approximately 268 km² of subtropical and tropical forests. It is one of the smallest protected areas in Bhutan but is ecologically significant for its population of spotted deer (chital), which are found nowhere else in the country, as well as wild boar, langurs, and a variety of bird species.
The sanctuary is located in the southern foothills bordering the Indian state of Assam, at elevations ranging from about 200 m to 1,600 m. The terrain is rugged, with dense forests of sal, bamboo, and tropical hardwoods. Phibsoo is relatively undeveloped for tourism, with limited infrastructure and access.
