Why visit Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park?
Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park (formerly Black Mountains National Park) is a large protected area in central Bhutan, covering 1,730 km² across parts of Sarpang, Trongsa, Zhemgang, and Wangdue Phodrang districts. Named after the fourth king of Bhutan, the park spans a wide altitudinal range from 150 m in the subtropical south to over 4,900 m in the northern alpine zone, creating an extraordinary diversity of ecosystems.
The park protects pristine temperate forests, including extensive tracts of old-growth rhododendron, oak, and conifer forest. It is home to Bengal tigers, snow leopards, red pandas, Himalayan black bears, and numerous bird species including the Satyr tragopan and Himalayan monal. The park forms a critical biological corridor connecting Jigme Dorji National Park in the north to Royal Manas National Park in the south.
