Khuruthang
Punakha, Bhutan
Why visit Khuruthang?
Khuruthang is a small town in Punakha district, central Bhutan, located a short distance southeast of Punakha town on the road toward Wangdue Phodrang. It sits in the same wide valley as Punakha, with the same subtropical climate — warm winters and hot, humid summers. The town has developed in recent years as a satellite settlement and administrative centre for the district, housing some government offices and a growing residential population.
Khuruthang is a practical stopover rather than a tourist destination in itself, offering basic amenities for travellers passing between Punakha and points east. The surrounding landscape is agricultural, with rice paddies, orange groves, and views of the forested hillsides.
