Gyalpozhing

Gyalpozhing (also spelled Gyelpozhing) is a town in Monggar District, eastern-central Bhutan, on the Kuri Chhu, west of Mongar town and east of Lingmethang. Its modern growth dates to 1992, when the Kurichhu Hydropower Plant began operating nearby: the town had just five shops in 1997 and has since grown to around 58, with a population of 2,291 recorded at the 2005 census. Gyalpozhing College of Information Technology, one of Bhutan's newer higher-education institutions, occupies a 62-acre campus in the town, and district authorities have proposed developing the town further as a lakeside model settlement with river-rafting facilities on the Kuri Chhu. It remains, day to day, a quiet service town for surrounding agricultural villages and a transit point on the Lateral Road.

Bhutan has no railway network; the nearest railheads are across the border in India.

By Car / Road

Gyalpozhing is about 1 hour east of Mongar on the Lateral Road. Buses on the Mongar–Trashigang route pass through.

On foot.

• Kuri Chhu riverfront — The town sits at the base of the Kuri Chhu, with hydropower infrastructure and, per district development plans, a proposed riverside promenade.
• Gyalpozhing College of Information Technology — A 62-acre campus and one of eastern Bhutan's newer colleges; the grounds and setting can be viewed from the road even without a campus visit.
