San Felipe

Toledo, Belize

Why visit San Felipe?

San Felipe is a small village in the Toledo District of southern Belize, home to a predominantly Q'eqchi' Maya community. Set in the lowland agricultural zone, the village is surrounded by farmland growing corn, beans, cacao, and other tropical crops. With a population of a few hundred, San Felipe maintains a traditional rural character with wooden houses, a small church, and a school. The Q'eqchi' Maya language is widely spoken, and the community's life revolves around agriculture and the seasonal rhythms of planting and harvest.

San Felipe is not a tourist destination but represents the kind of authentic Maya village experience that Toledo's ecotourism initiatives offer to visitors seeking cultural immersion. The climate is tropical with a wet season (June–January) and a drier period (February–May).
