Why visit Shabran?
Shabran (also spelled Şabran) is a city in northeastern Azerbaijan, the administrative centre of Shabran Rayon. It lies on the Samur–Shabaran lowlands between the Greater Caucasus foothills and the Caspian Sea, about 20 km inland from the coast. The area is agricultural — fruit orchards, vineyards, and vegetable farms surround the town. Shabran has a history dating back to medieval times when it was a stop on the Silk Road, and the ruins of the ancient Shabran fortress are nearby. Summers are warm and dry; winters are mild. The best time to visit is May to October.

By Plane
The nearest major airport is Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) in Baku, about 130 km southeast. A taxi from the airport takes 1.5–2 hours (50–70 AZN). Marshrutkas also run from Baku's bus station to Shabran.
By Train
Shabran has a station on the Baku–Makhachkala railway line. Daily trains from Baku take approximately 2–3 hours; tickets cost 4–6 AZN. Services are limited — check schedules in advance.
By Car / Road
From Baku, take the M1 highway north toward Quba and Russia. Shabran is about 130 km north of Baku, a drive of about 1.5–2 hours. Marshrutkas from Baku's International Bus Station cost 6–8 AZN.
Shabran is small and walkable. Shared taxis serve the surrounding villages from the central square. Taxis within town cost 3–5 AZN.
What are the things to do?
Shabran Fortress ruins — The remains of a medieval fortress dating to the 12th–15th centuries, located on the outskirts of town. The site includes sections of stone walls and towers, evidence of Shabran's Silk Road past.
Shabran History Museum — A small museum with exhibits on the rayon's history, archaeology, and natural environment.
Shabran Mosque — The town's central mosque, a modern building.
Caspian Sea coast — The Caspian beaches are about 20 km east of Shabran, near the village of Nabran, popular for summer swimming.
Visit the fortress ruins — Explore the medieval fortifications and imagine the Silk Road caravans that once passed through.
Beach day at Nabran — The Caspian coast near Shabran has sandy beaches and forested resorts, popular with Baku families in summer.
