Why visit?

Kürdəmir Rayon is a district in central Azerbaijan, on the northern bank of the Kura River. The landscape is predominantly flat agricultural land — vast wheat and cotton fields, melon patches, and vineyards — characteristic of the Kura-Araz lowland. The district capital, Kürdəmir, is a regional centre with a central bazaar, tree-lined streets, and a relaxed provincial atmosphere.

The district's economy is based on agriculture (wheat, cotton, grapes, melons) and animal husbandry. The Kura River provides water for irrigation and supports a fishing tradition. The terrain is flat and open, with wide horizons and dramatic skies. Climate is semi-arid continental: hot summers (32–38 °C), cool winters (0–7 °C), and low rainfall.

When is the best time to visit?

Spring (March–May) is the best season, with green fields and comfortable temperatures (15–25 °C). Autumn (September–October) is harvest season and also pleasant. Summer is hot. Winter is cold but dry.

What should you eat?

Kürdəmir's cuisine reflects its agricultural setting. Fresh produce dominates — tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and fruits. Plov, kebabs, and dolma are staples. The district is known for its melons and watermelons (summer). Fresh fish from the Kura River is grilled or baked. The bazaar sells local dairy, honey, and seasonal fruits. Meals cost 4–8 AZN in local restaurants.

What is the culture like?

Novruz (around 21 March) is the main festival. Agricultural celebrations mark the harvest seasons. Ashiq music and wedding traditions are the primary cultural expressions. The district's wine-making tradition, while less prominent than in western Azerbaijan, contributes to local culture.
