Lobito

Benguela, Angola

Why visit Lobito?

Lobito is a major port city of roughly 436,000 people (2018) in Benguela Province, 33 km north of Benguela city. It is built around one of Africa's finest natural harbours — a long, narrow spit called the Restinga encloses a deep-water bay that has made Lobito Angola's most important commercial port. The city is also the western terminus of the Benguela Railway (CFB), which connects the Atlantic coast to the mineral-rich interior of the DRC and Zambia. The Restinga peninsula is the city's social heart, lined with bars, restaurants, and the historic Farol do Lobito lighthouse. Lobito has a mild tropical arid climate: warm and wetter from December to April, dry and mild from May to November.
