Kwekwe is a major industrial and mining city in the Midlands Province, 70 km north of Gweru. It is Zimbabwe's gold-mining heartland, with the historic Cam and Motor Mine (one of the world's largest gold mines by output). The city also has a significant steel industry. Kwekwe's name is derived from the sound of frogs (kwekwe) in the local river. The Sebakwe River and Munyati River provide recreational opportunities.

The nearest airports are Harare (HRE, 210 km north, 2.5 hours) and Gweru (70 km south, 1 hour).

Kwekwe lies on the A5 highway, 210 km south of Harare (2.5 hours) and 70 km north of Gweru (45 minutes). Minibus kombis run frequently.

The city is walkable in the centre. Taxis are available.
