Why visit Phuc Yen?

Phuc Yen (Phúc Yên) is a provincial city in southern Vinh Phuc Province, positioned 40 km north of Hanoi and 15 km south of Vinh Yen. The city covers approximately 120 km² with an urban population of roughly 155,000. Upgraded from town status to a city in 2018, Phuc Yen functions primarily as a major industrial center hosting assembly facilities for global automotive and electronics manufacturers, while its northern rural wards transition into the southern foothills of the Tam Dao range.

For travelers, Phuc Yen serves as both a transit point to northern Vietnam and a weekend lake retreat. The northern portion of the city contains Dai Lai Lake (Hồ Đại Lải), a 525-hectare reservoir built in the 1960s that has evolved into a popular leisure destination with pine forests, water sports, and luxury eco-resorts.

The city experiences a humid subtropical climate typical of the Red River Delta. Summers (May to September) are hot, humid, and rainy, with temperatures regularly reaching 32–36°C (90–97°F). Winters (December to February) are dry and cool, with temperatures dropping to 13–19°C (55–66°F).
