Hon Quan

Hớn Quản is a rural district in western Bình Phước province, bordering Tây Ninh province. The district seat is Tân Khai township, located about 30 km west of Đồng Xoài. Established in 2009 from parts of Bình Long and Chơn Thành districts, Hớn Quản is a predominantly agricultural area.

The climate is tropical with temperatures averaging 25–35°C and a distinct wet season from May to October. The district lies in the basin of the Bé River, which provides water for the extensive pepper and rubber plantations that cover much of the landscape.

Hớn Quản is one of Bình Phước's main pepper-growing districts, with many smallholder farms producing high-quality black pepper. The district also has a significant cashew industry and a growing rubber sector. The population is predominantly Kinh (Vietnamese), with ethnic Khmer communities near the Tây Ninh border.

Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) in Ho Chi Minh City is about 120 km south. The journey takes approximately 2.5–3 hours by road.

Hớn Quản is accessible from Đồng Xoài via a provincial road heading west (30 km, 40 minutes). From Ho Chi Minh City, take National Route 13 north to Chơn Thành, then turn west onto the provincial road. The total drive from Ho Chi Minh City is about 2.5 hours. Buses from Đồng Xoài serve the district.

A motorbike or car is needed to explore the district. Tân Khai township is small and walkable. Local xe ôm drivers can be found near the market.

• Pepper plantations — Hớn Quản is famous for its black pepper; many farms are open to visitors, especially during harvest season (January–April).

• Bé River — The eastern boundary of the district follows the Bé River, with scenic riverbanks and small ferry crossings.

• Tân Khai Market — The district market sells fresh produce, local spices, and daily essentials.

• Cashew orchards — Extensive cashew plantations cover the gently rolling hills.

• Khmer pagodas — Small Khmer Buddhist temples (wat) in the southwestern part of the district reflect the local ethnic diversity.

• Pepper farm tour — Visit a family-run pepper farm to see vines climbing on their distinctive wooden poles, and watch the drying process.

• Bé River fishing — The river is popular with local anglers; visitors can try fishing from the banks.

• Cycling through pepper country — The quiet roads between pepper farms make for pleasant cycling.

• Visit a local cashew processing facility — Small workshops shell and roast cashews using both traditional and modern methods.

Vietnamese coffee is the standard drink at roadside cafés. Fresh coconut water and sugarcane juice are available seasonally. Bottled water is recommended.

Hớn Quản is an excellent place to buy black pepper directly from farmers. Prices range from 60,000–100,000 ₫ per kg for high-grade dried peppercorns. Cashew nuts and rubber products are also available at the market.
