Why visit Tinh Bien?

Tinh Bien (Tịnh Biên) is a district-level town in western An Giang province, situated along the Cambodian border in the foothills of the That Son (Seven Mountains) range. With a population of around 143,000, Tinh Bien is a culturally diverse area with a significant Khmer population, particularly in the communes of An Cu, Tan Loi, An Hao, Giao Va, and Vinh Trung. The town is a common land border crossing between Vietnam and Cambodia, connected to Phnom Penh via National Highway 2 (Cambodia). Tinh Bien has historically been associated with cross-border trade and, owing to its proximity to Cambodia, has also been a route for smuggled goods such as tobacco and electronics.

The climate is tropical monsoon. The town sits at a slightly higher elevation than the surrounding flatlands due to its proximity to the That Son mountains, offering some relief from the delta's heat.
