Why visit Stockbridge?

Stockbridge is a small, picturesque town in Berkshire County, western Massachusetts, nestled in the Berkshire Mountains. The town gained international fame as the home of Norman Rockwell, who lived and worked here for 25 years, painting many of his most iconic Saturday Evening Post covers in a studio overlooking the Housatonic River. The Norman Rockwell Museum houses the world's largest collection of his original artwork and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.

Stockbridge's charm extends well beyond its most famous resident. The town center features well-preserved 18th and 19th-century buildings, including the Red Lion Inn, which has been operating since 1773. The surrounding Berkshire hills offer year-round recreation, from hiking and fishing in summer to skiing and fall foliage viewing in autumn and winter. Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, is located in nearby Lenox.

The town has a strong artistic and cultural identity, with galleries, antique shops, and craft studios scattered throughout the village and surrounding area. Stockbridge's Main Street was the model for Rockwell's famous painting "Home for Christmas" (Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas), and the town recreates the scene each December with a holiday celebration.
