Why visit Greeley?

Greeley is a city of about 110,000 in the north central region of Colorado, the seat of Weld County, located 49 miles north-northeast of Denver on the South Platte River. Founded in 1870 by Nathan Meeker, the city was named for Horace Greeley, editor of the New York Tribune and promoter of the Union Colony of Colorado. Greeley is home to the University of Northern Colorado and is known for its agricultural heritage and the annual Greeley Independence Stampede, which attracts an estimated 400,000 attendees every summer.

The city lies along the historic route of the Pikes Peak Gold Rush of 1858-1861. Greeley has a semi-arid climate with over 300 days of sunshine annually. Summers are warm with temperatures in the 80s-90s°F, while winters are cold with occasional snowfall. The city's location on the high plains provides access to mountain recreation while maintaining a more moderate climate than foothill communities.

Greeley has a strong agricultural and ranching heritage, reflected in its restaurants, festivals, and cultural institutions. The University of Northern Colorado adds a youthful energy, with performing arts, athletics, and academic events throughout the year.
