Brovary
Kyivska oblast, Ukraine
Why visit Brovary?
Brovary is an important industrial city and transport hub in Kyivska Oblast, located approximately 20 km east of Kyiv on the highway to Chernihiv. With a population of around 100,000, it is one of the largest satellite cities of the capital. The name "Brovary" derives from the Ukrainian word for "brewery" (brovarnia), reflecting the city's historical ties to beer brewing. During the Soviet era, Brovary grew rapidly as a centre for manufacturing and light industry. Today, it serves primarily as a commuter suburb for Kyiv while maintaining its own industrial base. Visitors will find wide boulevards, Soviet-era apartment blocks, a modest central square, and a handful of cultural attractions that reflect its working-class character.
