About Entebbe

Entebbe is a pleasant lakeside town built on the shores of Lake Victoria, home to Uganda's sole international airport. Offering clean air, walkable streets, and colonial-era gardens against a backdrop of lake views, Entebbe is a relaxed alternative to staying in bustling Kampala. It is perhaps most famous for the 1976 Israeli commando raid (Operation Entebbe) that rescued over 100 hostages from a hijacked Air France flight.

The town has a quiet, resort-like atmosphere with a mix of government offices, diplomatic missions, and UN facilities given its proximity to the airport. The dominant local language is Luganda, though English is widely spoken. Due to its elevation (about 1,180 m), Entebbe enjoys mild equatorial temperatures — typically 25–27°C year-round — with high humidity. The heaviest rains fall from March to May and September to November.
