Why visit Karamursel?
Karamürsel is a coastal district in western Kocaeli Province, on the Gulf of İzmit. It is a residential and port town whose airfield, originally built by the German Luftwaffe in the Second World War, served as a US Air Force and NATO signals-intelligence station from 1957 until the American presence wound down in the late 1970s; it has since been operated by the Turkish Navy.
