Akcakent

Kırşehir, Turkey

Why visit Akcakent?

Akçakent is a small district town in western Kırşehir Province, founded in 1884 by Circassian (Çerkez) migrants from the Caucasus under the name Şehr-i Cedit. It was renamed Akçakent in 1965 and became an independent district (having previously been part of Çiçekdağı) in 1990. The district has lost population steadily since — from around 15,800 in 1990 to under 3,800 today, with the town centre itself home to well under 1,000 people — a pattern common across small Central Anatolian districts as residents move to larger cities.
