Why visit Pak Bara?
Pak Bara (ปากบารา) is a coastal town in Satun Province and the primary ferry pier for the Tarutao National Marine Park islands, including Ko Lipe, Ko Tarutao, Ko Adang, Ko Rawi, and Ko Bulon Le. It is a perfectly functional little town with all the basic amenities travellers need for a stopover between the mainland and the islands.
Pak Bara is 59 km west of Satun town, 124 km from Hat Yai, 123 km from Trang, and 237 km south of Krabi. The town's main street is lined with travel agencies, dive shops, accommodation, and restaurants catering to the island-bound crowds. The pier itself has a large car park, ticket offices, and waiting areas.
The climate is tropical monsoon. Ferry services to the islands run year-round, but are most frequent and reliable from November to May (the dry season). From June to October, sea conditions can be rougher and services may be reduced.
