Why visit Mayo?

Mayo (มายอ) is an inland district in central Pattani province, covering a rural area of rubber plantations, rice paddies, and traditional Malay-Muslim villages. The district sits south of the coastal districts of Panare and Yaring, and north of Yarang, serving as a transitional zone between the Gulf coast and the southern interior of the province.

With an estimated population of around 50,000, Mayo is predominantly agricultural. The economy centres on rubber tapping, rice farming, fruit orchards, and small-scale livestock rearing. The district is not a major tourist destination, but it offers a glimpse into the traditional rural life of Pattani's Malay-Muslim heartland, with a slower pace and strong community ties.

The climate is tropical monsoon, with a dry season from January to April and heavy rains from May to December. The district town of Mayo serves as the local administrative and commercial hub.
