Why visit Wapi Pathum?
Wapi Pathum (Thai: วาปีปทุม) is a district in eastern Maha Sarakham province, the third-largest in the province by area (605 km²) and the third most populous with about 112,000 residents. Its name means "lotus pond city," and the district's motto celebrates its scholars, fighters, exquisite silk, klong yao (a traditional Isaan musical instrument), rice, rice-noodle production (joh), and beautiful lotus flowers.
The district traces its history to a city established in 1881 by King Rama V at Ban Na Lao, which was later moved to Ban Nong Saeng (the current district seat). It was converted into a district around 1900. The town of Nong Saeng serves as the administrative and commercial centre. Wapi Pathum is also an educational hub, home to Wapi Pathum Technical College and several secondary schools.
The climate is tropical savanna. The cool season (November–February) is the best time to visit, with daytime temperatures around 25–30°C. The hot season (March–May) is very hot and dry, while the rainy season (June–October) brings monsoon rains.
