Why visit Orbe?

Orbe is an historic market town in the canton of Vaud in western Switzerland, situated 32 km north of Lausanne and 12 km southwest of Yverdon-les-Bains. Set along the Orbe River near the base of the Jura Mountains, the town originated as the Roman settlement of Urba, positioned along an ancient transit corridor connecting Italy to Gaul.

The town center sits on a hill overlooking the Orbe plain. Key architectural features include the round keep of the 13th-century Château d'Orbe, stone bridges spanning the river, and the Gothic Church of Notre-Dame built in the 15th century. Two kilometers north in the countryside lies Boscéaz, an active archaeological excavation site containing the preserved floor mosaics of a large Gallo-Roman villa. Orbe is also the commercial hub of the Côtes de l'Orbe wine appellation, where vineyards produce red varieties including Gamay, Pinot Noir, and Garanoir.

The area experiences a temperate continental climate. Winter months from December through February see average daily temperatures between -2°C and 6°C (28°F–43°F), with periodic snow. Summer temperatures from June through August range from 18°C to 26°C (64°F–79°F), with moderate rainfall distributed across all seasons.
