Why visit Ahangama?
Ahangama is a coastal village in the Matara District of Southern Province, located about 10 km east of Koggala and 5 km west of Weligama. It is a quiet fishing village that has become a growing destination for surfers and travellers seeking a less crowded alternative to nearby Mirissa and Weligama. The area has several good surf breaks, including the famous "Kabalana" reef break.
Ahangama has a developing boutique hospitality scene with trendy cafes, yoga studios, and designer villas. The traditional fishing community still operates from the beach, and stilt fishermen are a common sight. The climate is tropical, best visited December–March.

By Plane
Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB IATA) is 150 km north. Taxi takes 3 hours (Rs 9,000–12,000). Koggala Airport is 10 km west.
By Train
Ahangama Railway Station is on the coastal railway line. Express trains from Colombo Fort take 2–2.5 hours (Rs 300–700).
By Car / Road
Ahangama is on the A2 (Galle Road), 10 km east of Koggala and 5 km west of Weligama. Buses from Galle take 30–40 minutes.
Tuk-tuks. The beach is walkable from the main road. Surfboard rental shops are along the beach.
What are the things to do?
Ahangama Beach — A long sandy beach with good surf breaks. Kabalana Surf Break — A well-known right-hand reef break, one of the best in Sri Lanka. Stilt fishermen — Several poles along the coast, mainly set up for tourist photos. Midigama — Neighbouring village with surfing spots (Lazy Left, Plantations).
Surf at Kabalana or nearby Midigama surf breaks. Take a yoga class. Relax at the quiet beaches. Visit the turtle hatchery. Explore the fishing village.
