Badajoz

Extremadura, Spain

Why visit Badajoz?

Badajoz is the largest city in Extremadura and the capital of the province of the same name. Located on the Guadiana River near the Portuguese border, it has been a strategically vital frontier city for centuries. Its turbulent history is reflected in its massive fortifications, including the Alcazaba (one of the largest Moorish fortresses in Spain) and the Vauban-style fort of San Cristóbal.
