Albacete is the largest city in southeast Castilla-La Mancha and an important agricultural and commercial hub. Known as the 'New York of La Mancha' for its wide, grid-like avenues, it offers a mix of modern urban life and traditional Spanish charm. The city is famous for its knife-making industry (cuchillería), its lively fair (Feria de Albacete), and its position as a gateway to the Almansa wine region and the nearby Calares del Mundo Natural Park.

By Plane
The nearest airport is Albacete-Los Llanos Airport (ABC), with limited domestic flights. The most practical airport is Madrid-Barajas (MAD), about 230 km northwest via the A-3 motorway (2.5 hours). Alicante-Elche Airport (ALC) is also accessible at about 160 km southeast.
By Train
Albacete-Los Llanos AVE station is served by high-speed trains from Madrid (1 hour 15 minutes) and Alicante (45 minutes). Conventional Media Distancia trains connect to Ciudad Real, Jaén, and Valencia.
By Car / Road
Albacete is 230 km southeast of Madrid on the A-3 motorway (about 2.5 hours). From Alicante it is 160 km on the A-31. The city is well connected by excellent roads.
Albacete has a walkable city centre centred on the tree-lined Paseo de la Libertad. Local buses cover the wider city and suburbs. Taxis are affordable for short trips.

Catedral de San Juan Bautista — a 16th-century cathedral with a striking brick-and-stone facade combining Gothic and Renaissance elements.
Pasaje de Lodares — a beautiful 1920s covered shopping arcade in modernist style, with elegant glass ceilings and mosaic floors.
Museo de la Cuchillería — a unique museum dedicated to Albacete's famous knife-making tradition, with over 1,200 exhibits.
Parque de Abelardo Sánchez — a large, manicured urban park with a lake, statues, and an art museum.
Visit during the Feria de Albacete (September 7–17) — one of Spain's most important festivals with bullfights, concerts, and traditional fairgrounds.
Explore the surrounding wine route (Ruta del Vino de La Mancha) with bodegas offering tastings.
Day trip to the Calares del Mundo Natural Park for hiking, waterfalls, and the source of the Mundo River.
