Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Why visit Santa Cruz de Tenerife?
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital of Tenerife and co-capital of the Canary Islands, a lively port city set between the Atlantic Ocean and the Anaga Mountains. Its crescent-shaped bay, palm-lined avenues, and striking modern architecture — including the iconic Auditorio de Tenerife designed by Santiago Calatrava — give it a distinctive character. The old town (La Noria district) preserves colourful colonial buildings, while the city serves as the main entry point for visitors to northern Tenerife.

Ask on WhatsAppHow do you get there?
By Plane
The nearest airport depends on the island (TFS, TFN, ACE, LPA, FUE, SPC, VDE, GMZ). Taxis and car hire are available at all airports.
By Car / Road
Hire car is the most practical way to explore. Roads are well maintained, though some interior routes are winding and narrow. Free parking is generally available outside town centres.
Within towns, walking is the best option. For inter-town travel, public guaguas (buses) are reliable and affordable. Taxis are metered and available in larger towns. Car hire offers the most flexibility for exploring the island.
What are the things to do?
Auditorio de Tenerife — Santiago Calatrava's soaring white shell-shaped concert hall, the island's most recognisable landmark.
Museo de la Naturaleza y el Hombre — an excellent museum covering Canarian natural history and the indigenous Guanche culture, including mummies.

Mercado de Nuestra Señora de África (La Recova) — a lively market hall selling local produce, cheese, wine, and handicrafts.
Parque García Sanabria — a beautiful urban botanical garden with sculptures, fountains, and exotic plants.
Watch the famous Carnival of Santa Cruz in February/March — one of the world's largest carnivals with dazzling parades and costumes.
Take the tram (Tranvía de Tenerife) to La Laguna for a day trip to the UNESCO-listed historic university town.
Whale watching in the surrounding waters — pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins are frequently sighted.
Stroll along the Avenida de Anaga coastal promenade at sunset.
