Podujevo

Kosovo-Metohija, Serbia

Why visit Podujevo?

Podujevo (also known locally as Besiana) sits in northeastern Kosovo along the Llap River, 35 km north of Pristina. Situated in the fertile Llap valley at an elevation of 615 meters, the town serves as a major trade and transport hub connecting central Kosovo to southern Serbia via the nearby Merdare border crossing.

Travelers come to Podujevo primarily for Batllava Lake, located 13 km southeast in the village of Orllan. The surrounding area features forested hills and roadside grill houses known across Kosovo for serving traditional Llapi-style meat dishes. Outside of summer weekend trips to the lake, Podujevo remains a quiet provincial town with low visitor numbers.

The area experiences a continental climate. Summers are warm and dry, with daily temperatures often reaching 28°C to 32°C. Winters are cold and snowy, with temperatures dropping below -5°C due to cold winds descending from the nearby Kopaonik mountains.
