Why visit?

Kaffrine is a region in central Senegal — the area known in Wolof as Saloum, or in English as the Peanut Basin — created in 2008 when Kaffrine department and surrounding areas were split off from Kaolack region. It ranks third among Senegal's regions for cereal production and first for peanut (groundnut) production. The population is predominantly Wolof, with Pulaar (Fulani) and Serer minorities. The regional capital is Kaffrine town.
