Theodrine

Theodrine is a small inland settlement in the Canaries district of Saint Lucia, situated in the forested hills above the west coast. The hamlet is set among secondary forest and small agricultural plots at a moderate elevation, with cooler temperatures and a more verdant atmosphere than the coastal lowlands. With a population of fewer than two hundred, Theodrine is a quiet, scattered community where farming and forestry are the primary occupations.

The terrain is hilly and well-forested, with footpaths connecting scattered homesteads through the trees. The surrounding area supports cocoa, banana, and root-crop cultivation, interspersed with patches of dense tropical forest. The air is fresh and the scenery is lush, with views through the forest canopy to the Caribbean coast below.

Theodrine has no tourist infrastructure. Its appeal is for hikers and nature enthusiasts seeking an immersive experience of Saint Lucia's forested interior, within easy reach of Canaries village and the coast.

George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU) in Castries is approximately 35 km to the north (~50 min by taxi, EC$110–140). Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) near Vieux Fort is approximately 65 km to the south-east (~1 hr 40 min by taxi, EC$190–240).

Theodrine is reached by turning inland from the coast road near Canaries. The settlement is approximately 4 km from the coast; the access road is narrow, partially paved, and steep. A car or 4x4 is recommended. There is no minibus service. Driving from Canaries village takes about 15 minutes.

The settlement is scattered and best explored on foot via footpaths connecting homesteads. There is no local transport. A car is needed for access to the coast road.

There are no bars or cafés in Theodrine. Fresh cocoa tea and fruit juices may be available from farming households. The nearest rum shops are in Canaries village.
