Gishwati-Mukura National Park

Why visit Gishwati-Mukura National Park?

Gishwati-Mukura National Park is a small but ecologically significant protected area in Western Province, comprising two forest reserves: Gishwati Forest and Mukura Forest. Gishwati was severely deforested in the 20th century but is undergoing active restoration. The park is home to a small population of chimpanzees, golden monkeys, and various bird species. It is much less visited than Nyungwe, offering a more remote experience. Access requires a guide arranged through the Rwanda Development Board.
