Gisagara

Gisagara is a district in southern Southern Province, bordering Burundi. The landscape consists of rolling hills with a warmer climate than Rwanda's central highlands due to the lower elevation. The economy is agricultural, with maize, beans, cassava, and bananas as the main crops. The border crossing to Burundi is a short distance south of the district centre, making it a potential stop for cross-border travellers.

By plane: Kigali International Airport (KGL), 150 km north. By car/road: local transport from Butare (40 km south, 1 hour). The road is paved.

Motorcycle-taxis are the main option. Walking in the village centre.

Small eateries serve brochettes, beans, and rice. Basic but freshly cooked.
