Nolinsk
Kirovskaya oblast', Russia
Why visit Nolinsk?
Nolinsk is a small trading town on the right bank of the Vyatka River in the central part of Kirovskaya oblast', approximately 120 km east of Kirov. With a population of around 10,000, it is one of the oblast's older settlements, with roots dating to the 16th century. The town grew up as a river trading post and retains a quiet, traditional character, with a handful of historic churches, wooden houses, and a local market that has served the surrounding countryside for generations.
Nolinsk is not a major tourist destination, but it offers an authentic glimpse of life in a small Vyatka valley town. The river is central to the town's identity, and the embankment provides pleasant walks with views across the wide Vyatka. The surrounding landscape is typical of the region — mixed forest, farmland, and small villages scattered along the river and its tributaries.
The climate follows the regional pattern: cold winters (−12 to −15°C) and warm summers (18–22°C), with the best visiting window from June to September. The river is at its most beautiful in summer, when the long daylight hours and green landscape create a serene atmosphere.
