Kokhma

Kokhma is a small town in Ivanovskaya oblast', located approximately 8 km south of Ivanovo on the right bank of the Uvod River. With a population of around 30,000, Kokhma is essentially a satellite town of Ivanovo, closely connected to the oblast capital by both road and rail. The town is known for its Assumption Monastery (Uspensky Monastery), a significant religious site with origins dating to the 16th century.

Kokhma offers a quiet, residential atmosphere with traditional Russian wooden architecture alongside more modern buildings. The monastery complex is the main attraction, set in a peaceful location with well-maintained grounds and historic churches. The surrounding landscape is typical Central Russian countryside — flat, with mixed forests and agricultural fields.

The climate is continental with cold winters and warm summers. Kokhma is best visited from May through September. The town is easily accessible from Ivanovo and can be visited as a short excursion or combined with other Golden Ring destinations.

Kokhma has a railway station on the Ivanovo-Kineshma line. The train from Ivanovo takes approximately 15-20 minutes, making it very convenient for a quick visit.

Driving from Ivanovo takes about 15-20 minutes. Regular buses and marshrutkas connect Kokhma to Ivanovo frequently throughout the day.

Kokhma is small and walkable. The monastery, town centre, and surrounding areas are all accessible on foot. Local buses connect to Ivanovo and nearby villages.
