Why visit?

Gorj County lies in the Oltenia region of southwestern Romania, on the Southern Sub-Carpathians along the Jiu River. Its seat, Târgu Jiu, is home to Constantin Brâncuși's "Calea Eroilor" (Way of the Heroes), a 1937 open-air sculptural ensemble including the Table of Silence, the Alley of Chairs, the Gate of the Kiss, and the roughly 30 m Endless Column — a UNESCO World Heritage Site as of 2024 and freely accessible year-round.

When is the best time to visit?

May through October offers the mildest weather for touring Târgu Jiu and the surrounding hills.

Tell us your dates and we'll shape a Gorj route around them.
