Bechet

Bechet is a small town in Dolj County, Oltenia, Romania, with a population of about 4,300. It sits on the left bank of the Danube River, opposite the Bulgarian city of Oryahovo. Historically a ferry crossing point to Bulgaria, Bechet is a quiet port town known for its riverside setting and the tallest electricity pylon in Romania — a 126.5 m structure built in 1967 as part of a now-dismantled power line crossing to Bulgaria.

The nearest airport is Craiova International Airport (CRA), about 70 km north, with flights from several European cities via Wizz Air.

Bechet has a railway station on the Craiova–Calafat line, with trains connecting to Craiova (about 1.5 hours) and Calafat.

Bechet is accessible via DN55A from Craiova and DN56 from Calafat. The town is about a 1-hour drive south of Craiova.
