Photography coming soonOverview
Alba County occupies the central-west part of Romania in southern Transylvania, stretching from the Apuseni Mountains in the west to the Transylvanian Plateau in the east. The Mureș River flows through the county, and the landscape features rolling hills, vineyards, and the dramatic limestone gorges of the Trascău Mountains.
Alba is one of Romania's most historic counties, home to Alba Iulia — the site of the 1918 Great Union that created modern Romania. Its heritage spans Roman, Saxon, and Hungarian influences, visible in the Vauban-style Alba Carolina Citadel, Saxon fortified churches, and the Apuseni Mountains' traditional villages.
When to Visit
The best time to visit is May to October. Summer (June-August) is warm with temperatures averaging 22-28°C, perfect for hiking the Apuseni Mountains. Spring and autumn are mild and ideal for vineyard tours. Winter brings snow to the higher elevations.
Tell us your dates and we'll shape a Alba route around them.
WhatsAppGetting Around
Local buses and minibuses connect the main towns within the county. For rural areas, a car is recommended. Taxis are available in the county seat and larger towns.
