Why visit Trinidad?

Trinidad (also known as Santísima Trinidad del Paraná) is a small town in Itapúa department, home to the most famous Jesuit mission ruins in Paraguay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Mission of Trinidad was established in 1706 and flourished until the expulsion of the Jesuits in 1768. Its red sandstone church, with intricate carved stonework and a surviving dome, is the largest and best-preserved of Paraguay's Jesuit reductions. The site draws history buffs and tourists from across the border in Encarnación. The climate is subtropical; best visited May–September.
