Medanos del Chaco National Park
Alto Paraguay, Paraguay
Why visit Medanos del Chaco National Park?
Medanos del Chaco National Park is a protected area in northern Paraguay, straddling the border between Alto Paraguay and Boquerón departments. The park protects a unique Chaco landscape of active sand dunes (medanos) that shift with the wind, an unusual feature in a region better known for flat thorn forest. The dunes rise from the surrounding scrubland and create a striking desert-like landscape. The park is extremely remote and undeveloped, with no visitor facilities. The best time to visit is the dry season (May–September).
