Why visit Ngercheluuk?
Ngercheluuk is a small settlement in Ngiwal State, located on the eastern coast of Babeldaob. It is the northernmost village in Ngiwal, situated along the ring road near the boundary with Ngaraard State. The village consists of a handful of homes set between the paved highway and the mangrove-fringed lagoon, with a backdrop of low forested hills. The population is small — likely fewer than 50 permanent residents — and the settlement has no commercial infrastructure whatsoever.
The name Ngercheluuk is believed to refer to a species of tree or plant once common in the area. Today, the settlement is a quiet residential hamlet whose residents commute to Ngermechau or beyond for work and shopping. Visitors are rare, and the village's main appeal is as a landmark on the east-coast driving route between Ngaraard and Ngiwal. The best time to visit is during the dry northeast monsoon (November–April), when the coastal road is at its most pleasant.
