Ngeruangel Reserve

Kayangel, Palau

Why visit Ngeruangel Reserve?

Ngeruangel Reserve is a protected marine area located approximately 10 km north of Kayangel Island in the northernmost reaches of Palau's territorial waters. The reserve encompasses Ngeruangel Atoll, a largely uninhabited coral atoll with a shallow lagoon and a small sandy islet. It is designated as a state-protected area under Palau's Protected Area Network (PAN), closed to commercial fishing and strictly regulated for human access.

The reserve is one of the most pristine marine environments in Palau, with exceptional coral cover, abundant shark and ray populations, and important nesting sites for sea turtles. Access is restricted and requires a permit from the Kayangel State government. It is suitable only for experienced boaters, conservation researchers, and divers with a specific interest in pristine reef ecosystems.
