Suleja
Niger, Nigeria
Why visit Suleja?
Suleja is a historic town on the Abuja border, the seat of the Emir of Suleja, and a major commuter town for workers in the Federal Capital Territory. The town itself was originally called Abuja; when the federal government created a new planned capital in the 1970s and gave it the name Abuja, the older town was renamed Suleja (1976) to avoid confusion — the modern city of Abuja is a distinct, purpose-built capital roughly 40 km away.
