Biu

Borno, Nigeria

Why visit Biu?

Biu is a town in southern Borno State, the headquarters of Biu LGA and the seat of the Biu Emirate. It is the main centre of the Bura people and a historic Kanuri vassal state. The town lies on the Biu Plateau, giving it a slightly cooler climate than the surrounding lowlands.

The town was badly affected by the Boko Haram insurgency and travellers should verify current security conditions. The dry season (November–April) is the best time to visit.
