Tahoua

Tahoua is a region in central Niger, bridging the more fertile south and the Sahara Desert to the north. The regional capital is Tahoua. The northern part of the region transitions into the Sahel, with the Ader Doutchi Hills providing dramatic scenery. The economy is based on agriculture (millet, sorghum) and livestock. The region includes the important border town of Birni N'Konni on the Nigerian frontier.

The dry season (November–February) is best. The rainy season (June–September) brings the region to life with greenery.

The main north-south road from Niamey to Agadez passes through Tahoua, providing a tarred connection. Bush taxis and minibuses are available along this corridor.

Hausa and Tuareg cuisines meet in Tahoua. Millet porridge, grilled meat, and sweet tea are staples.

The population is mixed Hausa and Tuareg, with Hausa farmers in the south and Tuareg pastoralists in the north. The Ader Doutchi hills have a distinctive landscape.
