Maradi

Maradi is a region in south-central Niger, bordering Nigeria. The regional capital is Maradi, the country's second-largest city and the commercial heart of the Hausa region. The area is the centre of Niger's groundnut (peanut) production and a major agricultural zone. The population is predominantly Hausa, and the region has strong cross-border ties with northern Nigeria.

The dry season (November–February) is best. The rainy season is June–September.

Good road connections to Niamey and Zinder. Bush taxis and minibuses are the main transport.

Hausa cuisine dominates: tuwo (millet or sorghum porridge), miyan kuka (baobab leaf soup), groundnut sauce, grilled meat (suya), and beignets.

Hausa culture, with its music, dance, and traditional crafts, is strong. Maradi is famous for its traditional Hausa architecture. The Maradi market is one of the busiest in Niger.
