Dosso

Dosso is a region in south-western Niger, bordering Benin and Nigeria. The regional capital is Dosso. The area is fertile agricultural land along the Niger River valley, producing millet, sorghum, and vegetables. It is one of the more densely populated and accessible regions of Niger.

The dry season (November–February) is most comfortable. The rainy season (June–September) can make roads difficult.

The main road from Niamey to Gaya and the Benin border traverses the region. Bush taxis and minibuses connect the major towns.

The Zarma (Djerma) people are the main ethnic group. Traditional wrestling (laba) is a popular sport. The Dosso region has strong cultural ties to the Niger River valley.
