Why visit Gamgadhi?

Gamgadhi is the district headquarters of Mugu District, located in the remote far-west of Karnali Province. It is a small settlement near Rara National Park, the home of Nepal's largest lake, Rara Tal. The area is remote and sparsely populated.

The climate is temperate with cold winters. The best time to visit is May–October.

How do you get there?

By Plane

The nearest airport is at Jumla (JUM). From Jumla, a 3–4 day trek or a rough road 60 km north-west reaches Gamgadhi.

By Train

No railway.

By Car / Road

A rough road connects Gamgadhi to Jumla (60 km, 4–5 hours by jeep in good weather).
