Epupa

Kunene, Namibia

Why visit Epupa?

Epupa is a remote village on the Kunene River at the Angola border, famous for the Epupa Falls — in the Herero language "Epupa" means "falling water" — a series of cataracts where the Kunene River tumbles roughly 50 metres through a set of gorges. It is one of the region's most dramatic natural features, especially impressive after the rainy season, and the surrounding area is home to Himba communities known for their ochre body paint and semi-nomadic pastoral lifestyle.
