Kavango East

Kavango East is a region in northeastern Namibia, stretching along the Okavango River that forms the border with Angola. The region is named after the Kavango people and the Okavango River, which supports lush vegetation along its banks in stark contrast to the surrounding Kalahari sandveld. The regional capital, Rundu, is Namibia's second-largest town and a major centre for trade with Angola. The region is known for its riverine forests, traditional woodcarving, and the Popa Falls on the Okavango River.

The dry winter months from May to October are best for travel and wildlife viewing. The rainy season (November to April) is hot and humid.

Rundu is on the B8 highway connecting to Windhoek via Grootfontein and to Katima Mulilo. The Tar is paved. A 4x4 is useful for exploring side roads.
