Hardap is a region in south-central Namibia, encompassing the transition between the central highlands and the arid south. The region is named after the Hardap Dam, one of the largest dams in Namibia and a significant recreation area. The landscape is varied, from the Naukluft Mountains in the west to the Kalahari sandveld in the east.
The regional capital, Mariental, sits on the banks of the Fish River. The historic town of Rehoboth, with its distinctive Baster culture, is the northern gateway to the region. Sesriem, at the entrance to Sossusvlei, is one of Namibia's most important tourist destinations, offering access to the towering red dunes of the Namib.
When to Visit
The winter months from May to October offer the best conditions for travel, with warm days and cool nights. Sesriem and the Namib-Naukluft are accessible year-round, but the summer months (November to April) can be extremely hot. The rainy season (December to March) brings occasional thunderstorms that can transform the landscape.

WhatsAppGetting Around
The B1 highway runs north-south through the region, connecting Rehoboth, Mariental, and Stampriet. The C19 and C24 roads provide access to Sesriem and the Namib-Naukluft. Most roads are paved or well-maintained gravel. A 4x4 is recommended for the dunes area.
