Kale
Sagaing, Myanmar
Why visit Kale?
Kale (also spelled Kalay or Kalemyo) is a town in the Kale Valley of Sagaing Region, approximately 130 km south of Tamu and 40 km west of the Chindwin River. It serves as a regional administrative and commercial centre for the surrounding agricultural plains, which produce rice, sesame, and beans. The town has a significant Chin and Naga ethnic minority population, adding to its cultural diversity.
Kale is an important stop on the overland route between Myanmar and India — many travellers pass through en route to or from Tamu (the border crossing to Moreh in Manipur). The town has a laid-back frontier atmosphere with basic amenities. The climate is tropical monsoon, with the cool season (November–February) being the most pleasant time to visit.
